The festival "Menuo Juodaragis"

Journal Entry: Fri Aug 8, 2008, 3:57 AM

Balts...

"The Balts or Baltic peoples (Latvian: balti; Lithuanian: baltai; Latgalian: bolti, lit. "white"), defined as speakers of one of the Baltic languages, a branch of the Indo-European language family." - a fragment description of Balts in from Wkipedia

But Balts are not only known for their ancient language. The Balts were also the longest resistant pagan tribe in Europe. So the people preserve lots of ancient pagan manners even know, for example caring and praying for fire, believing that grass-snake will bring luck and richness and many more. Well I think it's quite interesting to get such ancient culture better, particularly when it preserved it's culture so much under these many years.

Back to the main point. This festival "Menuo juodaragis" is 11-th edition of independent post-folk, alternative music and contemporary heathen culture festival. Let me explain: it's a summer end festival with everything baltish and pagan in it - rituals, arts, teachings, tribal workshops, traditional rites, art exhibitions, various creative projects, nice film selection, special fire show, excursions, sports, folk dances,DJ parties and esspecially - MUSIC.

On MJR 2008 we'll see so many fantastic groups and musical projects. It's surely the strongest and most fascinating line-up in the festival's history! Your dreams will burn and fly with suicide pop stars SPIRITUAL FRONT from Italia, deeply impressing THEODOR BASTARD from Russia, and well known industrial mensch VON THRONSTAL. Neo-folk magic will be also played by famous British violinist Matt Howden, his project SIEBEN, and the mysterious Italians ROSE ROVINE E AMANTI.

And also baltic bands: folk-rock group ATALYJA, ambiental DONIS, eminent pop-rock singer Andrius Mamontovas, composer A.Klova with VYDRAGA, and marvelous band SKYL Ė. From Belarus are coming ancient folk traditionalists ESSA, OSIMIRA members' project DRUVA and PRAGNAVIT. Northern neighbours will be represented by Latvian drums and bagpipes band AULI and Estonian national metal pride LOITS, on heavy pagan front together with wild Lithuanians OBTEST and ANDAJA !

--------------

Wondering why I am so into this festival? Well first off all I'm really proud that I can call myself a descendant of ancient Balts. And I think this festival is best entertainment in whole summer. So if you are a bit interested, when I really do invite - check it out, you'll definatelly like it, I can asure you!

I am severely deprived of cultural events at the moment.

One of the things I miss so much, after coming to the US. Thankfully it's just a for a spell and we'll be jetting soon.

:iconyuujin:
is there not enought cultural events in US?
when you can always come to europe, if that is not too hard or expensive... :D
well, maybe it will sound a bit rude, but personally I would never change my living place... Maybe it's a bit hard to live in a country there is only 3.500.000 people, but it has a lot advantages - lots of other interesting countries around, old culture, interesting history and etc...

No, there are not.

At least not here in Vegas, that's for sure.

I miss the opera, and the orchestra. Definitely a shortage of that out here on the West Coast.

I loved living in Europe, or rather, England.

Just can't abide by the weather ;P

¨I will try¨
I have to review my schedule(arriving at Vilnius at 19th flying away from Tallinn 28th of Aug) to see how I manage. ;)
I'll be around Kaunas between 22 and 24 so have to find a way to go to Zarasai.
Plus, I'll be meeting my Estonian friend in Riga around 24th to celebrate her Birthday
so I need to adjust with her.

So you'll be around between 22 and 24 there, right?
